पश्चिम बंगाल में भाजपा की भारी चुनावी हार को कोविद के कुशासन पर जनता के गुस्से के साथ जोड़ा गया।  दो लक्षित राज्यों में से, केरल को बीच में ही छोड़ दिया गया था और AIADMK को राज्य का पूरा काम सौंप दिया गया था।  केवल दो राज्य जहां बीजेपी ने कब्जा किया, वे थे असम और पश्चिम बंगाल।  यहां तक ​​कि असम का अभियान भी गुनगुना रहा था और हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा को छोड़ दिया गया था लेकिन अभियान के माध्यम से बंगाल भाजपा का सेब बना रहा।  पश्चिम बंगाल की रैली भाजपा को राज्य में एक विश्वसनीय विपक्ष बनाती है लेकिन ममता बनर्जी की जीत का पैमाना यह है कि भाजपा ने विधानसभा चुनाव में क्या हासिल किया।  इसने राज्य में पारंपरिक कांग्रेस और वाम वोट बैंक को खा लिया है और उन्हें एक अंकों के संयोजन में कम कर दिया है।  यह कहना बहुत मुश्किल नहीं होगा कि कांग्रेस और वामपंथी आज से एक विश्वसनीय विपक्ष बन जाएंगे और यह स्थान लंबे समय तक भाजपा के कब्जे में रहेगा।  यह गेम-बदलते परिदृश्य बीजेपी को पहली बार राज्य से कम से कम 2 राज्यसभा सदस्य भेजने की अनुमति देगा, लेकिन उनकी हार ने ममता बनर्जी की साख को विधानसभा चुनाव के डेविड के रूप में स्थापित कर दिया।  यहां तक ​​कि वह विपक्षी दलों के लिए भी पूरी तरह से सचेत हो सकते हैं, जिन्हें एक लंबे नेता की गहरी जरूरत होती है, जो उनके प्रमुख हो सकते हैं।  नितीश कुमार के विपरीत, जिन्होंने बार-बार जहाज चलाए, ममता बनर्जी की वैचारिक साख अच्छी तरह से स्थापित है और आने वाले वर्षों में किसी भी तरह से भाजपा के लिए सौहार्दपूर्ण बने रहने की उम्मीद नहीं की जा सकती।

दूसरी ओर, नतीजे कांग्रेस पार्टी में संकट पैदा करेंगे।  केरल में हार को राहुल गांधी की व्यक्तिगत हार माना जाएगा, जिन्होंने पिछले एक दशक में कांग्रेस के लिए सकारात्मक अभियान नोट तैयार किए बिना मोदी विरोधी एजेंडा तैयार किया है।  इसका नतीजा यह है कि वामपंथियों ने 40 वर्षों में इतिहास रचा है और बदरुद्दीन अजमल के साथ गठबंधन करने के बाद बनाए गए काउंटर ध्रुवीकरण के कारण पार्टी असम में वापसी करने में विफल रही है।  विडंबना यह है कि पश्चिम बंगाल में बीजेपी की हार के बाद कांग्रेस को इस बात का अहसास है कि उसका अपना घर बसा हुआ है।  एकमात्र सांत्वना यह है कि डीएमके सत्ता में आ गई है और कांग्रेस कनिष्ठ साझेदार है।  पुडुचेरी में भी कांग्रेस राज्य में टूटते गुट के पीछे बनी हुई है।

यह हमें राजनीति की प्रकृति के मुद्दे पर लाता है जिसे भारत आज घूर रहा है।  एक सच्चाई यह है कि भाजपा आज एकमात्र राष्ट्रीय पार्टी के रूप में खड़ी है और विपक्षी रैंकों में राष्ट्रीय पार्टी का भाजपा के भाग्य पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं है।  यह 1960 के दशक की प्रतिकृति है जब भाकपा, स्वातंत्र पार्टी और जनसंघ जैसे राष्ट्रीय दलों का संसद के अंदर किए गए उग्र भाषणों को छोड़कर कांग्रेस पर कोई चुनावी प्रभाव नहीं था।  2009 के लोकसभा चुनावों में हारने के बाद आडवाणी ने जिस द्वि-ध्रुवीयता के सिद्धांत पर काम किया था, उसके बजाय भारतीय राजनीति ने अपनी असमानता को फिर से स्वीकार कर लिया है।  पहली बार जीत तब दर्ज की गई थी जब मुख्य धारा के दलों के साथ सही विलय हो गया था और अगली बार यह वाम और दक्षिणपंथियों के समर्थन से हुआ था कि 1990 में एक गैर-कांग्रेस सरकार का गठन किया गया था। नतीजा कांग्रेस को एक पक्ष के खिलाड़ी के रूप में शामिल किया गया।  अगले साल तक पंजाब, उत्तर प्रदेश और उत्तराखंड में चुनाव होने हैं, जहां फिर से यह सबसे बड़े राज्य में एक सा खिलाड़ी है।

अंत में, भाजपा की हार कोई छोटी बात नहीं है।  ममता बनर्जी को सत्ता में आने से रोकने के लिए किताब में हर तरकीब का इस्तेमाल किया गया था।  सत्ता के लिए इस अंधे धक्के ने भाजपा के लिए एक गवर्नेंस मुद्दा बना दिया है।  चुनावों के बीच में एक राष्ट्रीय कोविद सुनामी और भाजपा के शीर्ष नेतृत्व द्वारा आक्रामक प्रचार ने इसकी छवि को धूमिल कर दिया है।  इससे उत्तर प्रदेश में व्यापक प्रदर्शन होगा और राष्ट्रीय भावनाओं पर भी असर पड़ेगा।  हालांकि बीजेपी के पास तीन साल का जनादेश है और नेताओं को मरम्मत के काम का भरोसा हो सकता है, महामारी भी कहीं नहीं जा रही है।  यह इस बात के लिए है कि भाजपा को पश्चिम बंगाल चुनावों के दौरान बनाए गए शासन घाटे को दूर करना होगा।
