NEUROBICS (MENTAL EXERCISES) EXERCISES FOR YOUR BRAIN

Neurobics are mental exercises, which are used to enhance the brain’s performance. The term neurobics was coined by late neurobiologist Lawrence Katz and Manning Rubin in their book KEEP YOUR BRAIN ALIVE.

Chemicals that encourage growth of new dendrites and neurons in the brain are produced when any unusual sensory stimulation are done by us or with activities which are non-routine. Routine actions are done by individuals largely unconsciously which require less activity in the brain, and therefore exercise it less.

With the help of neurobics exercises, we can stimulate the brain. They result in a mind that’s fit to meet various challenges like remembering a name, staying creative in your work or mastering a new computer program. Some neurobiologists suggest that neurobics can slow aging of the brain.

HOW TO USE NEUROBICS FOR VERY GOOD BRAIN POWER?

1. Practise writing with left hand (or with right hand if you are a left-hander).

2. Do activities like brushing your teeth, putting on buttons of shirt, opening door with a key, dialling a number in a mobile, using the mouse of computer, using remote of TV, etc.. with your left hand.

3. Do a routine activity in an unexpected way. For example, take a new route to your college, school, office etc..

4. Engage your attention: for example turn picture of your desktop upside down.

5. Take small objects such as paper clips,nails,screws etc.. in a cup and identify them strictly by touch.

6. While taking bath apply soap with your eyes closed.

7. Try to communicate with others without speech. For eg: you can convey someone to serve more food or bring a glass of water etc.. through actions or using eyes and not through words.
